Local Economy-wide Impact Evaluation of the Child Development Grant Program in Northern Nigeria
Area: Northern Nigeria, Africa
When: 2019 - present
The Child Development Grant Programme (CDGP) was a six-year pilot Maternal and Child Grant Programme that was implemented in Jigawa and Zamfara states. The program reached over 90,000 women from the time of their pregnancy until their child reached the age of two. The main aim of CDGP was to develop a nutrition-sensitive social protection program to tackle the extremely high levels of malnutrition in the region which, if left addressed, lead to around half of all child deaths, can lead to irreversible physical and cognitive deficits, and also reinforce the inter-generational transfer of poverty.
